VOLLEYBALL – BAHRAIN’S senior men’s volleyball national team secured fifth place overall yesterday amongst the six participating teams to end the inaugural edition of the Arab Challenge Cup, which came to a close in Amman, Jordan.
The Bahrainis claimed their overall ranking after winning two of their five games, including a five-setter last night against hosts Jordan which they took 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-19, 15-12).
Their only other win of the tournament came against Palestine, who finished sixth overall, while they suffered defeats to eventual champions Tunisia, runners-up Egypt, and third-placers Kuwait, as Jordan ranked fourth on the final standings.
Bahrain’s French head coach Arnaud Josserand had 14 players in the championship, including Naser Anan, Mohammed Anan, Ali Ebrahim, Mahmood Alafyah, Hassan Al Warqaa, Ayman Harwana, Abbas Al Khabbaz, Hussain Mansoor, Sayed Hashim Issa, Mahmoud Abdulwahed, Mohammed Abdulla, Sayed Mohammed Alabbar, Hani Alawi, and Mahmood Abdulhussain.
The tournament was organised and run by the Arab Volleyball Association in cooperation with the Jordan Volleyball Federation.
