Bahrain's flexible, open economy and highly skilled national workforce make it the definitive “strategic gateway for global business,” Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro has affirmed.
Speaking at the launch of the first edition of ‘The Business Year: Bahrain 2026’ (TBY) report, the minister thanked the publication for selecting his ministry as a key partner, noting the collaboration ensures the report accurately reflects the kingdom’s economic priorities and dynamics.
Mr Fakhro highlighted that Bahrain offers businesses crucial advantages: clarity, flexibility, speed, competitive world-class services, and, most importantly, its superior human capital.
“The skills, expertise, and education underpinning our workforce are like no other in the region,” he stressed, emphasising that this is a critical advantage for global competitiveness and profitability.
The minister explained that the government has focused its efforts on reforms to streamline regulations and simplify investment processes, creating an environment where businesses can scale with confidence. He added that Bahrain continues to attract investment in innovation-driven sectors to ensure the economy remains sustainable, diversified and reliable.
Mr Fakhro invited global investors and entrepreneurs to engage directly with the ministry, committing to working closely with the private sector to “support your business growth, remove barriers, and build an economy that is globally connected and future-ready.”
Held at the Gulf Hotel Bahrain Convention and Spa, the launch event drew more than 150 prominent figures, including senior executives, investors and decision-makers, marking the debut of the extensive TBY report.
Developed over eight months and based on over 160 exclusive interviews, the report offers a comprehensive overview of Bahrain’s economic trajectory, its competitive strengths, strong regulatory framework, and growing role as a regional business hub.
The programme also featured a multi-sector panel discussion titled ‘The Role of Key Sectors in Enhancing Bahrain’s Position as a Global Gateway.’ Industry leaders, including Education and Training Quality Authority chief executive Maryam Hassan Mustafa, Export Bahrain chief executive Safa Abdulkhaliq and NBB Group chief executive officer Usman Ahmed, discussed opportunities to enhance the kingdom’s economic attractiveness, with NBB corporate communications chief Hisham Abu Alafateh acting as moderator.
Clara Corominas, country manager of The Business Year in Bahrain, noted that the successful launch and quality of dialogue reflect the kingdom’s ambition and readiness, reinforcing the group’s trust in both the public and private sectors.
The event was sponsored by platinum partners Al Zayani Investments and Amanat, alongside gold sponsors Bapco Energies, Bank ABC and NBB, and was supported by various chambers of commerce.
