Launching major strategic projects between Bahrain and Qatar, increased trade exchange, and the positive outcomes of the recent GCC Summit hosted by the kingdom show that both countries are ushering in a new phase of tourism and economic integration, Qatari Ambassador to Bahrain Nasser bin Abdulla Hassan Al Nasr said in an exclusive interview with our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.
He noted that consultation between both countries and developing the Economic Co-ordination Council have achieved the aspirations of the Bahraini and Qatari people over the past years through several vital projects.
The Qatari ambassador described the causeway project as an ambitious and strategic initiative, noting that in recent months increasing attention has been given to technical reviews and core design work.
Joint committees are currently following up on the studies in preparation for moving to the implementation phase once funding requirements and essential studies are completed, he said.
Ambassador Al Nasr also highlighted the pivotal role of the private sector in the next stage, whether through investment initiatives or by expanding commercial opportunities between the two countries.
He affirmed that advanced legislative and procedural frameworks in both countries are capable of supporting joint investments.
In light of regional developments, Ambassador Al Nasr stressed the importance of GCC co-ordination in the defence and military fields to address shared challenges.
“Regional security has become a necessity on which GCC states agree, stressing joint efforts of Bahrain and Qatar to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and endorse the United States’ plan to achieve peace and stability in the region,” he pointed out.
