FOOTBALL – OUSSAMA Belatreche converted a penalty in additional time to help Al Hidd secure a 3-3 draw against Al Ahli yesterday in the 10th round of the Nasser Bin Hamad Bahrain Football Premier League.
The opening match of the round, held at Khalifa Sports City Stadium, saw a flurry of goals with Saleh Mohamed Alashban putting Ahli ahead in the second minute. Hidd’s efforts to find an equaliser were rewarded when Mohammad Al Eikish found the back of the net in the 44th minute. Ahli, however, regained lead five minutes later through Sayed Mahdi Sharaf as the first half ended 2-1.
Ahli suffered a setback after the interval as they were reduced to 10 players when Alashban received a red card in the 51st minute.
Hidd bounced back as Mubarak Mohamed scored in the 68th minute to draw level. However, Abdullah Al Hashsash netted a goal from the penalty spot in the 79th minute to help Ahli regain their lead once again and raise hopes of a memorable win. Their victory hopes were dashed in the final moments of the match when Belatreche found the equaliser from the penalty spot.
After the draw, Ahli maintained their fifth position in the standings with 12 points from 10 games while Hidd continue in the seventh place with 10 points.
The 10th-round matches continue today, when three matches are lined up. In the first match of the day, Sitra are scheduled to take on Al Shabab at 4.25pm. The match will be played at the Khalifa Sports City Stadium. Later, Budaiya lock horns with A’ali at 7pm at the Bahrain National Stadium. In the third match of the day, Muharraq clash with Al Khaldiya at the Shaikh Ali Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium, in another 7pm kick-off.
