I may be too old to recall if our legislators have ever shown genuine interest in issues that directly make life easier for ordinary citizens. They seem more focused on topics that bring popularity – such as reducing office hours, granting additional salaries for special occasions, expatriate matters, and even comfortable office chairs for female employees.
Last Wednesday, I lost my December quota of garbage bag despite visiting Ramez Hypermarket in the Manama Central Market three times because the machine was empty.
This is not the first time; it’s a recurring issue. About six months ago, I visited Mega Mart in Manama, then Ramez in Isa Town, and Ramez in Riffa – all in one day – only to find all three machines empty.
This reflects the municipality’s lack of interest in serving the common man. The solution requires only a small effort: a van, a driver, and a staff member visiting these 12 machines every alternate day to refill them.
Natural justice demands that if a citizen is deprived of their rightful quota due to departmental negligence, they should receive it along with the next month’s allocation.
This 80-year-old was slapped by an empty machine.
