VOLLEYBALL – Bahrain champions Muharraq have bolstered their roster for the 44th Arab Club Men’s Volleyball Championship with the signing of talented Polish spiker Mateusz Jozwik.
This was announced yesterday by the team, who are one of 12 leading volleyball sides from the region who are set to compete in the tournament, which is being hosted by Tunisia. The Bahrainis departed yesterday morning for Tunis ahead of their first game of the competition tomorrow.
Muharraq are in Group B for the preliminary round alongside Police SC from Qatar, Al Ittihad SCSC Tripoli from Libya, Majees SC of Oman, Palestinian Military Club from Palestine, and home side Etoile Sportive du Sahel.
Group A features Al Seeb from Oman, Northern Refineries Sport Club from Iraq, Tadjenanet from Algeria, Asswehly SC from Libya, Qatar SC from Qatar, and a second side from the hosts in Esperance Sportive de Tunis.
Jozwik brings a wealth of experience to the kingdom’s representatives and was part of the Zamalek SC team from Egypt who won the title in last year’s Arab club event, held in Doha, Qatar.
He is joining Muharraq for this tournament from Romanian outfit Rapid Bucuresti, with whom he is contracted for the 2025-26 season.
The 29-year-old is an outside hitter and is a welcome addition to Muharraq’s already formidable line-up, which also includes Swedish professional Jacob Link, and Bahraini stars Naser Anan, Mahmood Alafyah, Sayed Hashem Issa, Mohammed Abdulla, Mohammed Omar, and Abbas Al Khabbaz.
Other local talents on the roster include Majeed Mohammed, Hussain Ehsan, Abbas Ehsan, and Ali Alsairafi.
Muharraq, who are coached by Bahraini tactician Yaseen Al Meel, will be taking on Majees in their opening clash tomorrow, scheduled for a 5pm start, following a revision of the schedule.
They then face off with Al Ittihad SCSC Tripoli the following day at the same time, before playing their third assignment on Saturday against Etoile Sportive du Sahel at 1pm.
Muharraq face Police SC in their penultimate fixture on Sunday at 1pm, before completing their schedule in this stage against Palestinian Military Club on Monday at 3pm, which will be their fifth contest in as many days. All times are Bahrain.
Muharraq had been preparing for the Arab Volleyball Association (AVA) tournament locally.
They had also been competing in the 2025-26 season of the Isa bin Rashid Bahrain Volleyball League, where they are looking to defend their title.
Muharraq are the lone Bahraini side competing in this year’s AVA event.
They will be looking to improve on the ninth-place classification achieved by Dar Kulaib in the competition’s previous edition last year in Doha.
