Oil and Environment Minister and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs Dr Mohammed bin Daina held a series of high-level meetings with Japanese officials on the sidelines of the Island States Ocean Summit in Tokyo.
Japanese Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Al Doseri and Supreme Council for Environment CEO Amna Al Rumaihi attended the meeting.
During the minister’s meeting with Japan’s State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kenji Yamada, discussions focused on expanding bilateral co-operation in energy, industry and environmental sectors, including investment opportunities and technological collaboration.
The minister also met vice-minister for Global Environmental Affairs at Japan’s Environment Ministry Doi Kentaro.
The meeting reviewed Bahrain’s environmental and climate initiatives and explored opportunities for closer co-operation in scientific research, marine monitoring and climate resilience.
In a separate meeting with Nippon Foundation chairman Yohei Sasakawa, the two sides discussed strengthening collaboration on environmental sustainability and exchanged views on advancing science-driven and innovative approaches to support island and coastal communities.
Dr Daina and the accompanying delegation also met officials from Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority to discuss technical co-operation, regulatory developments and the exchange of expertise in the field.
