It is heartwarming to see Flipperachi aka Hussam Assem, a popular Bahraini rapper making waves in India.
His song Fa9la picturised in the Bollywood movie Dhurandhar – not available for viewing in the GCC region due to its geopolitical overtones – is being appreciated for its aggressive and energetic Arabic vibe for the antagonist’s entry in the film.
The song is currently tending at number 1 on Spotify’s ‘Viral 50 Global’ list and immensely popular in India with influencers, musicians and dancers performing it in myriad ways to capture the essence of the high-octane beat.
Despite the language not being understood in India, the infectious energy of the song has become a sensation, with many posting translations of the lyrics and words like ‘Agool, Doos Doos, Indi Khosh fa9la, sweeli raqsa et al’.
The words I understood that had me both grooving and drooling were Karak, marshmellow and mithai but does it really matter?
Music, after all, transcends all barriers; language, borders and culture and that’s what Fa9la has done, created a cross-border buzz with its emotional connect.
Now we hear that Flip (as he is known amongst his peers) is planning a live tour of India shortly. Undoubtedly a first for a Bahraini hip-hop artist and worthy of a celebration.
Looking forward to his next big breakout number and who knows, it could be a collab with Indian musicians.
