Bahrain’s parking culture is deteriorating rapidly, turning streets into daily battlegrounds of congestion and frustration. As a resident, I witness drivers parking carelessly, showing little concern for fellow road users. Vehicles block lanes, narrow roads, and create bottlenecks, making commutes longer and more stressful for everyone.
Particularly dangerous are cars parked near sharp turns, severely limiting visibility. Drivers often cannot see incoming vehicles until they are dangerously close, leading to frequent near-misses and accidents. This reckless habit puts lives at serious risk.
In some areas, shop vendors frequently park illegally right in front of their stores, further reducing usable road space and unfairly disrupting traffic flow for others.
Stronger enforcement is urgently needed. Traffic authorities must increase vigilance and impose strict fines on all illegal and inconsiderate parking without exception.
To tackle the root cause – shortage of parking spaces in busy zones – I urge the government to urgently build multi-storey paid parking facilities in high-demand areas. These structures would provide organised, legal spaces, ease street congestion, and generate revenue for maintenance.
Implementing these measures – better enforcement plus proper infrastructure – will restore safety, reduce frustration and foster a more responsible parking culture across Bahrain.
Let us act now before the situation worsens further.
