Five defendants, whose ages and nationalities were not disclosed by the authorities, have been put into pre-trial detention for the alleged possession, circulation and marketing of spoiled goods.
The Public Prosecution stated that it had received a report at Naim Police Station in the Capital Governorate. The alert was filed by an Asian national who told the police that one of the men was allegedly in possession of spoiled food products at their shared residence and had altered and modified their expiry dates in preparation for circulating them for sale.
Investigators raided the residence and a commercial premises. Spoiled and expired food products were found and seized. Expiry dates had allegedly been tampered with by removing the original dates and replacing them with false ones.
The arrests followed.
Specialists from the Industry and Commerce Ministry have been tasked with inventorying the items, identifying the expired goods and taking the necessary measures to seize any similar products circulating in the market.
Investigations are ongoing in preparation of court appearances.
