The Interior Ministry has announced that the first phase of the smart camera system will be operational on February 1, following technical tests of its readiness under different conditions.
The smart cameras will enhance road safety by detecting various violations, such as:
Exceeding the speed limit
Running red lights
Using the emergency (yellow) lane
Using a mobile phone while driving
Failure of the driver or front-seat passenger to wear seatbelts
Children sitting in the front seat
Failing to adhere to the correct lane at intersections or violating road markings
Heavy vehicles failing to keep to the right lane
Exceeding the permitted level of window tinting
Frequent or repeated lane changes
Driving slowly in the left lane
Movement of heavy vehicles during peak hours
The General Directorate of Traffic emphasised that citizens must update their contact details on the eTraffic applications or the "MyGov" app to enable immediate follow-ups .
