BAHRAIN and Bermuda have reiterated their shared commitment to enhance co-operation and promote growth.
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, emphasised the importance of continuing to advance co-ordination to create future opportunities during a meeting with Bermuda Premier David Burt at Gudaibiya Palace yesterday.
During the meeting, the following was announced:
- The granting of sovereignty to Bermuda over the data of subscribers in cloud computing centres located in Bahrain.
- The granting of partner status to Bermuda for the maritime-air freight service in the kingdom.
- The granting of entry visas upon arrival in Bahrain to holders of Bermudian passports.
Avenues to advance co-operation, latest regional and international developments and issues of common interest were discussed.
The visiting leader toured the Prime Minister’s Office, where he was briefed on its workstreams, plans and projects.
Prime Minister’s Court Minister Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and senior officials were present.
Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, who welcomed the Bermudian leader on his arrival at the airport and is the head of the Honorary Mission, emphasised the importance of further developing relations, especially in global transport, shipping services, and logistics.
He noted both sides’ commitment to enhance co-ordination to support sustainable economic development.
The agreement on maritime and air freight co-operation contributes to reinforcing the kingdom’s position as a leading global logistics hub by providing a functional framework to speed up and integrate the movement of goods between the two countries, Mr Fakhro said.
It supports the streamlining of customs and regulatory procedures for approved operators. The announcement also supports operational efficiency by providing innovative solutions to connect ports and airports in both countries, supporting global supply chains by creating a secure trade corridor linking the Middle East and the North Atlantic region.
Premier Burt also visited the Bahrain Economic Development Board, Central Bank of Bahrain and Bahrain National Museum.
