Radio Bahrain Company, a portfolio company of Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat, has appointed Ala Ghawas as chief executive officer, effective tomorrow.
Mr Ghawas joins the kingdom’s legacy broadcaster from a senior leadership role at STC Bahrain. A prominent music entrepreneur and independent artist, his background merges telecommunications expertise with deep-rooted involvement in the regional arts and culture scene.
The appointment comes as the station, which is nearing its 50th anniversary, pivots towards a “digital-first” strategy.
Mr Ghawas will spearhead content innovation and expand the station’s commercial footprint beyond traditional airwaves while aligning with Mumtalakat’s goal of nurturing local leadership.
He is also tasked with enhancing audience engagement across 96.5 Radio Bahrain’s evolving multi-platform offerings.
“Ala’s understanding of both media and business landscapes will strengthen our position as a forward-looking organisation,” said Khaled Mattar, chairman of the board.
Mr Ghawas added: “It is a privilege to lead this trusted brand. I look forward to driving the next phase of innovation and growth with the team.”
The board extended its gratitude to outgoing CEO Omar Shaheen for his contributions to the company’s recent success and market positioning.
