Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani met Congressman Joe Wilson, member of the US House of Representatives and the Armed Services and Foreign Affairs Committees.
The meeting was attended by Bahrain’s Ambassador to the US Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa and the minister’s accompanying delegation.
The two sides reviewed the long-standing ties and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. They discussed means to further enhance co-operation across areas of mutual interest within the framework of existing agreements, including the Free Trade Agreement and the Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement (C-SIPA).
The meeting also included an exchange of views on the latest regional and international developments. Discussions touched on the efforts undertaken by the US administration, led by President Donald Trump, to end regional conflicts and promote security, peace and stability in the region.
Dr Al Zayani also met members of the US House Appropriations Subcommittee on National Security, Department of State, and Related Programmes, including Representative Lois Frankel, the Subcommittee’s lead Democrat, as well as Representatives Mark Alford and John Moolenaar.
The two sides reviewed the long-standing strategic partnership between Bahrain and the US, highlighting the advanced level of co-operation across various sectors.
The minister attended an event organised by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, DC, focusing on securing critical energy supplies.
The programme included a panel discussion with Doug Burgum, US Secretary of the Interior, which addressed the key objectives of the international co-operation framework for securing global supply chains of critical minerals, ways to enhance the security of global supplies, and the importance of co-operation in mining, processing, refining, investment, and policy co-ordination.
Dr Al Zayani also met Dr Christopher T Yeaw, Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Arms Control and Nonproliferation at the US Department of State and discussed co-operation in areas of mutual interest, building on their historic friendship and strategic partnership, to serve the shared interests of both countries and their peoples.
