VOLLEYBALL – PAKISTANI volleyball star and their senior men’s national team captain Murad Jehan will be providing a major boost for Bahraini club Dar Kulaib tonight when they take to the court in the quarter-finals of the fourth Wava Men’s Clubs Volleyball Championship, currently being held in Kuwait City.
Jehan was tipped to join Dar Kulaib earlier in the West Asia Volleyball Association (Wava) tournament but faced administrative issues. Those have been settled, according to the club, and he is expected to feature on the line-up of Dar Kulaib head coach Ivan Joksimovic when they take on South Gas Sports Club from Iraq this evening in their elite eight clash. The game is scheduled for a 7pm start.
The kingdom boasts a second team in the quarters in Al Ahli, who take on Ittihad Club from Saudi Arabia at 3pm.
Should both Dar Kulaib and Ahli triumph today, they are slated to lock horns in an all-Bahraini semi-final, which will be played on Thursday.
The other match-ups in the last eight pit Al Rayyan against Al Wakrah in an all-Qatari clash scheduled for 1pm, while Seeb of Oman take on Kuwait Sports Club at 5pm. All times are Bahrain.
Dar Kulaib head into today’s fixtures having won two of their three games in the preliminary round, while Ahli are so far undefeated in the tournament having swept their matches in the group stage.
Thursday’s semi-finals will then set the stage for the gold and bronze medal contests on the championship’s concluding day on Saturday. Classification matches to determine the rest of the final rankings will also be held this week from tomorrow to Friday.
