Bahrain’s oldest migrant workers’ rights organisation is stepping up its outreach programmes during Ramadan to provide support to labourers, especially those working outdoors in rising temperatures and challenging conditions.
The Migrant Workers Protection Society (MWPS) launched its holy month initiative at ‘Ghabgha Delight 2026’ last weekend and has been busy this weekend distributing essential items at labour camps.
“The support we received at Ghabgha Delight is a testament to Bahrain’s spirit of generosity,” MWPS chairperson Mona Almoayyed told the GDN.
“It energises our volunteers and staff as we enter Ramadan, knowing that the community stands with us.”
MWPS, in co-ordination with partners, has scheduled several distributions to reach labourers across different camps in Bahrain.
On Friday, the organisation distributed gift cards provided by the Almoayyed Foundation at a labour camp in Manama, and dry ration boxes funded by Ms Almoayyed at a camp in Isa Town.
Yesterday, Abdul Rahman Kanoo School’s donated winter blankets were handed out at a labour camp in Hidd.
Tomorrow, Kids World Kindergarten’s donation of dry ration packages will be distributed at the MWPS office in Adliya.
The initiatives were organised during the first few days of Ramadan, after it was selected as the beneficiary of Ghabgha Delight 2026, a charity and CSR initiative organised by The Lounge Bahrain.
More than 200 guests including diplomats, senior government and international officials, business leaders and community figures attended the event on February 21 at the Palavra Resort on Reef Island, where MWPS received a sizable donation to support its ongoing initiatives.
“Our work is rooted in practical assistance – providing food, shelter and medical aid to those who need it most,” MWPS general secretary Madhavan Kallath noted in his address during the evening.
“We call on everyone in Bahrain to look at the list of items we are seeking this Ramadan and contribute what they can. Every meal, every blanket, makes a tangible difference.”
“We rely entirely on community contributions, and we ask everyone in Bahrain to consider supporting us this Ramadan.”
MWPS is seeking donations of essential items for labourers, especially those working outdoors in rising temperatures.
It is accepting new bed sheets and blankets, non-perishable food items including rice, lentils, cooking oil, all-purpose flour, chili powder and salt.
Also needed are personal hygiene products such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothpowder, as well as basic medical supplies including bandages and over-the-counter pain relievers.
Heat stress prevention items such as reusable water bottles, neck cooling wraps and towels are also being collected.
The items have been selected to help labourers deal with heat stress, receive proper hydration and work safely during hot weather conditions.
Donations can be dropped off at the MWPS office until March 19, between 8am and 5pm from Sunday to Thursday.
The office is closed on Friday.
The organisation is also looking for volunteer photographers to support its communications and documentation work during this period.
Photographs will be credited and published on the society’s social media platforms and in its newsletter.

Established in 2005, MWPS is a Bahraini-registered non-profit organisation dedicated to improving living and working conditions for low-income migrant workers, providing food, clothing, legal aid, medical support and repatriation assistance.
