So, we are now into day 11 of the regional conflict here in the Middle East. Our beloved Bahrain – like all the GCC countries – continues to come under fire daily. Air raid sirens and the warning app going off have become the new norm, something I didn’t think I’d ever get used to. Do we feel safe. Surprisingly, yes.
The government here and in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman are all doing an incredible job of keeping people safe.
Sadly, there have been injuries and fatalities. There continues to be physical damage to the country we have called home for decades now. I am not going to pretend to have a grip on the political situation, the longer term ramifications or where this situation leaves everyone. Is it impacting my business, undoubtedly yes.
I find myself having similar thoughts to the ones I had during the Covid pandemic – what if’s, how do I do this, how can I support that.... and it creates anxiety and stress in different ways. For now, we are following the local advise of sheltering in place and doing our best. I have no doubt that there are a lot of others in the region going through the same mixed emotions and similar types of anxiety.
I am hoping that we have a good sense of community here, like we did during Covid, and we can all support one another until such time as the situation settles/passes.
Hopefully sooner than later for all sides! Mark Hughes
