His Majesty King Hamad has issued a Royal Order extending the sixth legislative term of the Shura Council and Parliament.
The Order stated that, after reviewing the Constitution, particularly Article (58), and in light of the necessity arising from the current circumstances and their implications, the extension has been decreed.
Article One stipulates that the sixth legislative term of the Shura Council and Parliament shall be extended for a fifth session lasting one year, starting from December 12, 2026. Article Two states that the Order shall be published in the Official Gazette.
Following the issuance of the Order, His Majesty – in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister – met Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam and Shura Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh.
He reviewed the outcomes of the GCC Supreme Council’s consultative meeting held in Jeddah, which aimed to strengthen Gulf integration, co-ordination, and joint action amid regional developments, and to safeguard the interests, security and stability of GCC states.
The King stressed that Bahrain successfully overcame the Iranian aggression and demonstrated its ability to address challenges through the unity, cohesion and solidarity of its people, who stood together in support of the nation.
He commended the armed forces, security agencies, and relevant teams for their efficiency and readiness in safeguarding the kingdom, its citizens and residents.
He emphasised that Bahrain continues to maintain security and stability and remains committed to advancing its national development path.
His Majesty expressed appreciation to Mr Al Musallam and Mr Al Saleh, and members of both councils, for their national positions and contributions, commending the achievements during the four sessions of the sixth legislative term.
He also highlighted the legislative authority’s role in supporting national development through its legislative and oversight functions.
The Shura and Parliament chiefs expressed appreciation for the King’s continued support for the legislative authority and commended the directives provided, which they described as a motivation to continue fulfilling national responsibilities.
