GCC member states and Jordan have strongly condemned in a joint statement the blatant Iranian attacks targeting the territories of several Arab and Islamic countries, describing them as a clear violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of those states, as well as of international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
Ambassador Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla, permanent representative of Bahrain to the United Nations Office and other international organisations at Geneva, delivered the joint statement on behalf of the GCC and Jordan during the general debate under Agenda Item 3 at the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
The statement noted that the attacks targeted civilian infrastructure, public service facilities, and residential areas, resulting in civilian casualties and injuries, in addition to significant property damage.
It further stressed that targeting countries not party to the ongoing regional conflict constitutes a serious breach of international law.
Such actions, the statement said, not only endanger civilian lives and security but also undermine regional and economic stability and negatively affect the enjoyment of fundamental human rights, including the rights to life, security, personal safety, and development.
The GCC countries and Jordan reaffirmed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the most effective means of resolving crises and safeguarding regional stability and the safety of their populations.
They warned that further escalation risks undermining regional security and could draw the region into dangerous developments with potentially severe consequences for international peace and security.
