Foreign Minister and National Committee for Human Rights chairman Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani affirmed that the rights to a secure life, safety, and human dignity are safeguarded in Bahrain thanks to the approach of His Majesty King Hamad, the integration of constitutional institutions, and the efforts of ‘Team Bahrain’ led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He also highlighted the awareness and cohesion of Bahraini society in confronting various challenges with a spirit of responsibility and community partnership.
On the occasion of the Arab Human Rights Day and the 22nd anniversary of the adoption of the Arab Charter on Human Rights, the minister expressed appreciation for the pivotal role played by the Arab League and Arab countries in promoting human rights principles and strengthening Arab solidarity in safeguarding the security, stability and sovereignty of Arab states.
This comes amid the reprehensible and unjustified Iranian attacks targeting Bahrain, GCC member states and Jordan, despite their commitment to dialogue and diplomacy in resolving crises.
Dr Al Zayani noted that the blatant Iranian attacks targeting civilian facilities, residential buildings, economic, oil and vital infrastructure, which resulted in deaths, serious injuries among civilians and the terrorising of innocent people, constitute reprehensible acts and a clear violation of international law, international humanitarian law and the principles of good neighbourliness.
He added that these attacks represent a flagrant breach of regional and international conventions, including the Charter of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation and the Cairo Declaration on Human Rights in Islam, which call for the promotion of human rights in security, stability, coexistence and peace, the building of international relations based on friendship and mutual respect, and the prohibition of any aggression that threatens national sovereignty.
The minister expressed pride in the wise humanitarian approach of His Majesty and the sound directives of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in addressing current challenges with firm national resolve, high competence and responsibility.
He noted that this approach ensures the protection of lives and both public and private property, strengthens the national security system under the vigilance of military and security forces, and reinforces co-operation among the Bahrain Defence Force, the National Guard and the Interior Ministry in co-ordination with the armed forces of GCC countries.
The minister also commended the comprehensive measures taken by government institutions to enhance human rights and fundamental freedoms, including the continuation of remote government work at a rate of 70 per cent, the uninterrupted provision of services through an integrated digital system, the continuation of remote education services, and the readiness of medical personnel to provide advanced healthcare services.
He also highlighted efforts to strengthen the national crisis response system through the activation of the National Civil Emergency Management Centre.
He noted the measures taken to ensure food and water security, maintain the efficiency of the energy and electricity sector, ensure the resilience of communications and early warning systems, and enhance cybersecurity.
Dr Al Zayani praised the honourable Arab stance and the broad international solidarity with Bahrain and Arab countries, reflected in the historic United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 condemning the reprehensible Iranian attacks, sponsored by 136 countries – the largest number of sponsors in the council’s history.
