The news that both the Bahrain and SaudiArabia Grand Prix have been cancelled shouldn’t come as a surprise. Especially to those of us living in the region.
As the former Operations Director of the Bahrain International Circuit and a senior consultant for the Jeddah circuit, these cancellations hit pretty hard.
I know most of the people at both tracks and I fully understand the hard work and effort they have all put in over the last 12 months to deliver these races. These events are of national importance to each host country and there is a lot of pride in hosting them.
Both tracks have responded brilliantly to their customer base. No excuses, no keeping hold of customers’ money with both tracks offering full automated refunds. Some other venues and events could learn from this response because every customer I’ve spoken to is keen to rebook next year.
MotoGP has had to make a similar cancellation for the race in Qatar but their calendar is flexible enough to reschedule to November.
Bahrain and Jeddah haven’t got that opportunity.
To the staff of both the Bahrain International Circuit and the Saudi Arabian GP, be safe, take stock and bounce back bigger and stronger in 2027!
