One-third of the Italian residents in Bahrain have temporarily left the kingdom hoping to return once peace and stability are restored across the region, the European country’s embassy revealed yesterday.
The embassy also noted that Ambassador Andrea Catalano accompanied the Italian nationals leaving the kingdom and traveling to Riyadh.
It also extended its gratitude to the authorities for ensuring a seamless trip across the border on buses organised by the embassy.
“Thanks to the dedication and commitment of all border personnel, approximately one third of the Italian community in Bahrain was able to temporarily leave the island, with the shared hope and clear desire to return soon to the peaceful and welcoming land of the kingdom,” the embassy added in a statement.
“The embassy reaffirms its solidarity with the kingdom during these past weeks, marked by the unprovoked aggression against this peaceful nation. “Throughout this period, the embassy has remained fully operational, with staff working around the clock to assist Italian citizens residing in or visiting Bahrain.” The embassy has continued to operate with interruption in the past several weeks, assisting nationals with the issuance of passports and Emergency Travel Documents, counseling and support, as well as assistance with repatriation arrangements for those who requested it.
“Italy stands firmly alongside Bahrain and highly values the spirit of partnership, solidarity, and mutual respect that characterises the longstanding friendship between our two countries,” a spokesperson from the embassy added.
Meanwhile, Indian community organisations like Kannada Sangha Bahrain (KSB) and Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) also facilitated the return of nearly 400 passengers on board chartered Gulf Air flights from Dammam.
KSB’s flight to Mumbai carried home a total of 193 passengers, while the BKS flight took 192 to Kochi.
The shuttles for the Nav Bharat organisation’s first flight to Mumbai and another flight chartered by BKS to Kochi will depart this morning.
