CYCLING – BAHRAIN Victorious Development Team rider Thomas Capra claimed an impressive podium in the 109th Popolarissima one-day road race, held in Treviso, Italy.
The Italian was part of a furious bunch sprint to the finish, where he was narrowly pipped to victory by countryman Davide Persico of MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort team.
Capra had to settle for the runner-up classification as Persico registered a winning time of three hours 41 minutes – a mark shared by more than 30 others in the lead group at the end of the 174.7-kilometre course distance.
Joining Persico and Capra on the podium was Spaniard Manuel Penalver of Team Polti VisitMalta.
Amongst other Bahrain Victorious Development Team riders, Italian Leonardo Consolidani finished 14th, Serbian Mihajlo Stolic was 16th, Russian Mikita Babovich finished 26th, Italian Santiago Basso came 41st, and Elia Andreaus, also from Italy, was 72nd.
Around 150 riders of various nationalities and international cycling teams competed in the event.
