In the wake of Iranian aggression over the past two weeks, Bahrain has demonstrated exceptional defence, courage and resilience, ensuring the safety and well‑being of its citizens and residents despite attacks on civilian and key infrastructure.
During such situations, it is deeply troubling to see videos and social media posts showing the aftermath of these attacks.
Citizens and residents must understand their obligation to remain vigilant and patriotic, refraining from recording or sharing images of such incidents. Posting these materials on social media jeopardises national security, which is a crime with serious legal consequences.
Over the past week, the Anti-Cybercrime Directorate has arrested individuals for posting videos related to the aftermath of the Iranian aggression, expressing sympathy or glorifying hostile acts, spreading false information, and inciting the targeting of locations within the Kingdom of Bahrain.
According to the authorities, the videos circulated from the arrested individuals’ social media handles (accounts) could mislead public opinion, spread fear among citizens and residents, and undermine security and public order.
The Kingdom has established safe shelters and a 24/7 early warning system, coupled with swift rescue operations – essential measures for maintaining peace and stability, especially in the face of missile and drone attacks.
As confirmed by officials, hundreds of Pakistani families are using these safe shelter facilities and yet you see some unscrupulous elements circulating videos in total negation of Pakistan-Bahrain deep rooted ties and history of brotherhood that spans more than five decades.
While such actions are the fault of the individuals involved, the leaders of the community need to rein-in uncouth elements and educate their people, addressing behaviour that threatens the host country’s national security and social harmony.
Both countries enjoy excellent ties in security, and all vital areas of common interest and we take pride in being part of the socio-economic development of the Kingdom, and everyone should work, taking those ties forward to the next level of excellence.
