Bahrain, along with Arab and Islamic countries, today called upon Iran to immediately cease its hostile attacks on Gulf States and respect international law as a first step towards de-escalation and restoring stability in the region.
Foreign Minister Dr Abullatif Al Zayani participated in Wednesday evening's consultative ministerial meeting held in Riyadh, chaired by his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
The meeting was also attended by the foreign ministers of Jordan, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Türkiye, Pakistan, and Azerbaijan.
The ministers discussed the Iranian attacks targeting the GCC member states, Jordan, Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
“They expressed their strong condemnation and denunciation of these deliberate attacks carried out using ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, which targeted residential areas and civilian infrastructure, including oil facilities, desalination plants, airports, residential buildings, and diplomatic premises,” said a joint statement.
The ministers affirmed that such attacks cannot be justified under any pretext or in any form, and underscored the right of states to self-defence in accordance with Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations.
The officials called on Iran to immediately cease its attacks, respect international law, international humanitarian law, and the principles of good neighbourliness, as a first step toward de-escalation, restoring security, and advancing diplomacy as the means to resolve crises.
They emphasised that the future of relations with Iran depends on respect for the sovereignty of states, non-interference in their internal affairs, non-aggression against their territories, and refraining from using or developing military capabilities to threaten countries in the region.
The ministers further stressed that it was imperative for Iran to comply with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), immediately halt all attacks, refrain from any provocative actions or threats against neighbouring states, cease supporting, financing, and arming affiliated militias in Arab countries, and refrain from any actions or threats aimed at closing or disrupting international navigation in the Strait of Hormuz or threatening maritime security in the Bab el Mandeb.
The joint statement also reaffirmed the ministers support for the security, stability and territorial integrity of Lebanon, and condemned Israel’s aggression against Lebanon and its expansionist policies in the region.
