A Lego set inspired by the film "Project Hail Mary" has set a new Guinness World Records title after being launched into the stratosphere and safely returned to Earth, the organization announced on Tuesday (April 21).
The set achieved the record for the highest altitude launch and retrieval of a LEGO set, reaching 114,790 feet (34,988 meters) above sea level, Guinness World Records confirmed in a press release.
The set, which included minifigures of "Project Hail Mary" characters Ryland Grace and the alien Rocky, was launched from Gwynedd County in the UK on March 20, 2026 and was a collaboration between Sony Pictures Releasing UK and aerospace specialist company, Sent Into Space.
The LEGO payload, which was launched using a high‑altitude balloon system, ascended to nearly 35 kilometres above Earth, following which it returned to ground and was safely recovered in full, completing the launch-and-retrieval cycle required for the record, according to Guinness World Records.
An official Guinness World Records certificate was later presented to the film’s directors and producers at a ceremony in Las Vegas on April 13.
