ATHLETICS – BAHRAIN’S elite sprinter Kami Adekoya registered a strong runner-up finish in the women’s 400 metres hurdles at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi, Kenya.
The meeting was a Gold-level event on this year’s World Athletics Continental Tour.
Competing in her season debut in the discipline, Adekoya finished the race in 54.60 seconds – marginally behind winner Amalie Iuel from Norway, who triumphed in 54.12s.
Paulien Couckuyt from Belgium came third in 55.47s, while Bianca Stubler from the US was fourth in 55.84s.
Completing the race’s final classification from fifth through eighth, respectively, were Linda Angounou (56.41s) from Cameroon, Elisabeth Slettum (56.59s) from Norway, Jessica Wright (56.87s) from the US, and Martha Rasmussen (57.01s) from Denmark.
Adekoya was running her third international race of 2026, having already competed in the women’s 400m the first two times.
In her previous appearance on track a week prior to Nairobi, she claimed a sensational victory while clocking a new personal best in the 400m at the Addis Ababa Grand Prix in Ethiopia – another World Athletics Continental Tour meeting.
The 400m hurdles is currently her primary discipline, in which the 33-year-old has won multiple gold medals, including at the Asian championships, the Asian Games, and the World Military Games.
She was also the world and Asian indoor champion in the 400m earlier in her career – both in 2016 – while she is the race’s defending champion in the Asian Games.
Adekoya is expected to be a key member of Bahrain’s athletics national team that will be competing in the upcoming 20th Asiad in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan later this year.
