BASKETBALL – BAHRAIN’S women’s 3x3 basketball national team punched their ticket to their tournament’s semi-finals last night at the fourth GCC Games in Doha, Qatar.
The quartet of Bayan Salman, Aya Kamali, Maryam Sameer, and Shereen Abdulrahman won both their games in Pool B of their competition’s preliminary round to secure their place in today’s final four and stay on course for a medal finish.
Meanwhile, Bahrain’s men’s 3x3 basketball squad remained in contention for a berth in the semis of their event.
Bogdan Dragovic, Mohammed Buallay, Austin Ajukwa, and Wayne Chism took two of their three assignments yesterday and have one game remaining in the preliminaries of their competition. It will be played today, and it will set the match-ups for their semi-final round.
Today will be the concluding day of both the women’s and men’s 3x3 basketball tournaments.
In yesterday’s women’s clashes, Bahrain first outclassed the UAE 18-9 and then outplayed their counterparts from Saudi Arabia 17-12. The Saudis beat the Emiratis 19-12 in the other Pool B clash to join the nationals in the last four.
There, Bahrain will play Pool A runners-up Kuwait at 4.40pm today, while Saudi will take on Pool A winners Qatar in the other semis contest at 4.15pm. The winners will move on to the gold medal game at 6.45pm, while the losers will battle for bronze at 5.55pm. All times are Bahrain.
In yesterday’s men’s action, Bahrain made a winning start with a 16-13 triumph over Saudi. They then cruised against Kuwait 21-10 but ended the day losing their penultimate fixture of this stage against the host Qataris 15-21.
The nationals have one fixture remaining in this phase against the UAE today, scheduled for a 3.50pm start.
After the completion of the preliminaries, the top four teams on the standings move on to the semi-finals, with the top seeds taking on the number four seeds and the second seeds facing off with the third seeds.
The victors will then lock horns for gold at 7.10pm, while the losing sides will face off for bronze at 6.20pm. All times are Bahrain.
