Kuwait’s interior ministry said yesterday it had arrested four people affiliated with Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) who attempted to infiltrate the Gulf state by sea, the state news agency KUNA reported.
The ministry added that one member of Kuwait’s armed forces was injured in clashes with the infiltrators.
Kuwait later summoned Iran’s ambassador and handed him a protest note over what it described as the infiltration of Bubiyan Island by the Revolutionary Guards the foreign ministry said.
Bubiyan Island is the largest of Kuwait’s coastal island chain, located in the northwest of the Gulf.
Kuwait condemned the incident as a hostile act and said it reserved the right to defend its sovereignty under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
l Bahrain strongly condemned and denounced the terrorist plot linked to the IRGC targeting the security and stability of Kuwait, which constitutes a flagrant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, international laws, and the principles of good neighbourliness, and represent a direct threat to regional peace and security.
Foreign Affairs Ministry affirmed Bahrain’s full solidarity with Kuwait and its absolute support for all measures taken to maintain its security, protect its residents, and hold those involved in these hostile acts accountable.
It also commends the vigilance and efficiency of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces and security services in thwarting this criminal plot, and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured member of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces.
The Ministry further renewed its call for the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to take firm action to demand that Iran cease its hostile acts and terrorist schemes, emphasising the necessity of Iranian compliance with international law, the UN Charter, UN Security Council Resolution 2817, and UN Human Rights Council Resolution 61/1 to ensure regional and international stability.
