Southampton have been expelled from the Championship play-offs after being found guilty for spying on their semi-final opponents Middlesbrough.
In a stunning victory for Boro, after they identified a man spying on a training session as a Southampton analyst, an independent disciplinary hearing, called by the English Football League, sided with the North East club.
The south coast club won the semi-final 2-1 on aggregate but a bitter and acrimonious dispute followed.
Boro will now face Hull City in Saturday’s play-off final at Wembley in Southampton’s place.
Southampton, however, are likely to appeal the decision.
The game is potentially worth £200million to the winners who will be promoted to the Premiership.
