A specialised medical team at the Madinah Cardiac Surgery and Disease Center saved the life of an Indian pilgrim in his sixties after he suffered sudden cardiac arrest inside the Prophet's Mosque, where he was immediately treated and given an electric shock that restored his pulse.
The Madinah Health Cluster stated that the patient was transferred by ambulance to the center in critical condition following acute ventricular fibrillation, where the medical team immediately began treatment and placed him on a ventilator to complete urgent medical interventions.
An emergency cardiac catheterization revealed a dangerous clot in the main coronary artery. The artery was opened and a stent was inserted, restoring blood flow and significantly improving the patient's condition, after which the ventilator was removed and rehabilitation care was completed.
The patient was discharged in good health, ready to continue performing Haj rituals, with his condition being monitored remotely via smartwatch technology under the "Rafiq Rihltak Bil-Haj" project, in cooperation with Seha Virtual Hospital, enabling real-time vital sign monitoring for a safer Haj journey.
