Haj is an annual pilgrimage that draws millions of Muslims to the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia, to perform religious rites as taught by Islam's Prophet Mohammad to his followers 14 centuries ago.
As the fifth pillar of Islam, Haj is a religious duty required once in a lifetime for every physically and financially able Muslim. It represents the highest expression of Islamic faith, devotion, and global unity.

The pilgrimage takes place during the 12th month of the Islamic lunar calendar, meaning its timing shifts each year in relation to the solar calendar. As a result, both Haj and Ramadan occur in different seasons over time.
Eid Al Adha, one of Islam's two main holidays, falls midway through next week and marks the climax of the Haj.
