His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Bapco Energies chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa met US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright to advance strategic energy co-operation between Bahrain and the US.
The high-level meeting, which was also attended by Shaikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Shaikh Mohammed bin Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Bapco Energies Group chief executive officer Mark Thomas, focused on strengthening collaboration across the energy sector, with particular emphasis on unlocking joint investment opportunities and accelerating innovation-led growth.
The discussions highlighted Bapco Energies’ ongoing engagement with leading global partners to enhance energy security, attract strategic investments, and adopt future-ready technologies.
Both sides reviewed the progress of key initiatives, including the evaluation and development of deep gas resources in the onshore Bahrain Field, leveraging advanced US-based technologies, as well as advancements in the kingdom’s offshore 3D seismic programme.
The meeting also reviewed the ongoing progress of the Bapco Modernisation Project, with a focus on deploying advanced refining technologies to optimise operational performance and drive greater efficiency. They also discussed opportunities to expand technology-driven ventures within the energy sector to support the adoption of next-generation solutions.
Shaikh Nasser, who is also National Security Adviser and Royal Guard Commander, separately met Mike Rogers, chairman of the US House of Representatives Armed Services Committee, during his visit to Washington.
Shaikh Nasser affirmed that the defence and military partnership between Bahrain and the US represents an advanced model of strategic co-operation based on mutual trust and shared visions aimed at supporting regional and international security and stability.
Shaikh Nasser noted that the Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement (C-SIPA) has contributed to consolidating the foundations of defence and security co-operation between the two countries and enhanced the level of strategic co-ordination in a manner that supports security and stability in the region.
The meeting also reviewed the latest developments in military co-operation between the two countries, ways to strengthen defence partnerships and develop areas of co-ordination, and security issues of mutual interest.
Shaikh Nasser also met Elbridge Colby, US Under-Secretary of Defence for Policy.

The meeting also emphasised the importance of the joint statement on the Artificial Intelligence Opportunities Partnership between Bahrain and the US, as a significant step towards strengthening co-operation in advanced technologies, thereby enhancing security and stability and achieving shared prosperity.

The joint statement was signed by Bahrain’s Ambassador to the US Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa and Jacob Helberg, US Under-Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment, on behalf of the US.
The statement sets out the shared commitment between Bahrain and the US to support innovation and entrepreneurship and to strengthen technological co-operation, to achieve the mutual prosperity and economic security of both countries.
It also emphasises the importance of trusted partnerships in developing infrastructure that supports artificial intelligence, including in the fields of energy, critical minerals, semiconductors, advanced computing capabilities, and digital connectivity.
Shaikh Nasser also met Jared Isaacman, Director of the American space agency Nasa.
Shaikh Nasser also attended the honouree reception and the Golden Plate Award banquet as the guest of honour, hosted by the American Academy of Achievement.
