People aren’t mad enough about generative artificial intelligence.
I can agree that AI has its advantages. It has revolutionised many aspects of daily life, making tasks easier and more efficient, assisting with everyday activities, and helping students better understand complex subjects.
Studies even show that it helps boost students’ motivation. However, people seem to ignore the negative aspects of it.
First of all, artists are losing their jobs as rapid advances in digital technologies and artificial intelligence continue to transform the cultural and creative industries, according to a new global report released by Unesco.
Music generated by AI gets sometimes more viral than music created by real people. It is now very difficult to distinguish what has been generated by AI and what has not.
More and more companies choose to generate content instead of hiring an artist, a videographer, or a photographer. Why? For the sake of money.
AI is basically free, or at least very cheap compared to paying a professional, and it is ruining people’s careers and people’s passion.
People are also generating cartoons, such as the latest viral trend ‘Fruit Love Island’, and these get more views than any man-made animated content.
I will never understand why people choose to watch this, even when knowing the consequences it has.
Think about it.
In a few years, how will we be able to tell what’s true from what’s false?
It is already getting complicated to notice that a video was AI-generated; imagine how it will be in a few years.
Let’s now get to the ecological consequences.
In 2025, AI consumed as much water as the entire bottled water industry. A basic AI-focused data centre uses as much electricity as 100,000 homes. The bigger ones being built will use 20 times more. Why are people not waking up? Yes, AI has its advantages, but it has way more disadvantages! And, we haven’t even mentioned all the data about its users that AI collects and stores.
I hope people will realise soon enough how serious this is.
Long live artists and save the earth!
