Fifty low-income families across the kingdom have received essential home appliances just in time for the summer, thanks to a charitable initiative led by Bahraini non-profit organisation Our Responsibility.
In collaboration with YK Almoayyed and Sons, the organisation distributed air conditioners, refigerators, washing machines and dryers to families in need, helping them prepare for the rising temperatures.
“Our Responsibility used around BD15,000 in donations towards the appliances, while YK Almoayyed offered us a generous discount,” the organisation’s founder Rayana Sayyar told the GDN.
“The appliances were delivered mostly to Bahraini families, some who had applied through our website.”
The organisation launched its official website in February to make it easier for individuals and families in Bahrain to apply for financial support. The platform also enables donors to contribute to a variety of causes, including medical treatment, education, food assistance and housing renovations.
Ms Sayyar explained that each case is carefully assessed to determine the specific needs of every family.
“We visited each home and looked at what they were missing,” she said. “Some already had certain appliances and only needed one or two additions, while others had none at all or were living in very poor conditions and required several appliances.”
She explained that families with children were prioritised, in line with the organisation’s mission to improve living conditions for vulnerable children across the kingdom.
“When selecting cases, our main focus is ensuring children have access to basic living conditions,” she added.
Applicants are required to submit bank statements and valid identification, while members of the organisation also conduct home visits to gain a clearer understanding of each family’s situation.
The appliances were delivered to homes in several areas, including Hidd, Salmabad and Budaiya.
“It was worth it to see the smiles on their faces,” Ms Sayyar said. “With summer approaching, many were worried about not having working refrigerators or air conditioners. These appliances make a huge difference in their lives, and we were happy to help.”
She also expressed gratitude to all those involved in making the initiative possible, including YK Almoayyed and Sons and the volunteers who supported the project.
Established in 2023, Our Responsibility has been supporting low-income families and children across Bahrain through a range of charitable efforts.
During Ramadan, they launched a campaign to help raise donations for several projects, including contributing to the BD80,000 fundraising drive for the renovation of the children’s psychiatric ward at Salmaniya Medical Complex.
It has also helped settle electricity bills for families facing ongoing health challenges and raised funds for a sixth-year medical student to cover the remainder of tuition fees.
Last year alone, the organisation raised BD60,000 for community initiatives.
Ms Sayyar was recognised for her contributions to the community when she won the Woman in Social Services category at Bahrain’s Women of the Year Awards 2025, honouring her work with orphans and children in need.
