The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) - Medical University of Bahrain welcomed a delegation from Oman’s Ministry of Education emphasising the partnership between the university and the sultanate in advancing health sciences education and healthcare leadership.
The delegation included Oman’s Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education for Higher Education Dr Abdullah bin Ali Al Shibli; Fahd bin Saeed Al Qasabi, Director General of Scholarships; Salem bin Saeed Al Shaqsi, Head of the Co-ordination Department at the Office of the Under-Secretary for Higher Education; and Abdulaziz bin Saeed Al Wahaibi, Academic and Financial Officer at the Omani Embassy.
During the visit, the delegation met RCSI Medical University of Bahrain president Professor Sameer Otoom and members of the university’s senior management team to review the progress of the partnership and explore opportunities for further collaboration in higher education and healthcare workforce development.
The visit also included a tour of the new academic building, which is currently under construction.
The discussions built on the co-operation agreement in higher education and scholarships, which supports the sponsorship of Omani students pursuing medical studies at RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, and reflected a shared commitment to developing future healthcare professionals and leaders in Oman.
The two sides also explored extending scholarship opportunities to additional health-related disciplines at RCSI Medical University of Bahrain. The proposed expansion would support Oman’s healthcare priorities by strengthening the pipeline of healthcare professionals equipped to meet evolving healthcare needs.
The meeting also highlighted the academic achievements of Omani students enrolled at the university, as well as the accomplishments of alumni contributing to healthcare systems in Oman and across the region.
Prof Otoom said the partnership is founded on a shared vision for advancing education, healthcare and human capital development. He expressed pride in the achievements of Omani students and graduates and said the university looks forward to expanding co-operation and supporting Oman’s future healthcare workforce through education across medicine and other health-related disciplines.
Dr Al Shibli said the partnership represents an investment in the future of healthcare and higher education.
He highlighted the university’s commitment to education, research and community service, as well as its support for Omani students, and expressed hope for further co-operation that contributes to the continued development of Oman’s healthcare sector.
