Look what I spotted! Bahrain’s favourite English language newspaper GDN (Gulf Daily News) was featured in a scene of the popular Malayalam television series Mazhathorum Munpe (meaning ‘Before the Rain Stops’) broadcast on the Asianet channel – a favourite of Malayalees in the Gulf and around the world.
It was on for just a few milliseconds, so we rewound the programme and then clicked this image as evidence!
The award-winning serial has been adapted from a Malayalam family drama novel written by Joycee. The narrative centres on Aleena, who grows up in an orphanage but is driven by an intense desire to find her biological parents. Her journey leads her to her mother Vaijayanthi’s doorstep, where she works as a home nurse.
Despite the challenges, anonymity and emotional coldness she faces under her own mother’s roof, Aleena endures the struggles just to be near her family.
Amid her isolation and search for her roots, she finds solace and love through a supportive man named Manushankar (Manu).
The family drama, directed by Binu Vellathooval and written by Joycee, was a huge winner at the 2026 Asianet Television Awards, being nominated for 17 categories and winning nine of them.
Top show, top newspaper!
