The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) participated in a regional workshop titled ‘The Role of National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Supporting Immunisation Led by Ministries of Health’, hosted by the Jordan Red Crescent Society, in co-operation with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
The workshop brought together representatives from 12 national societies across the Middle East and North Africa, alongside partners, public health experts and specialists.
The workshop aimed to strengthen regional co-operation between national societies and ministries of health, while developing a regional roadmap that defines the role of the Red Cross and Red Crescent societies in supporting national immunisation programmes.
It also focused on enhancing co-ordination mechanisms, promoting partnerships, exchanging knowledge and best practices and building institutional capacity to help increase immunisation coverage, improve access to vaccines, and strengthen health systems’ preparedness for future health challenges and outbreaks.
The Bahrain Red Crescent Society was represented by board member Dr Kawthar Al Eid, who reaffirmed the society’s commitment to supporting regional initiatives that advance public health and community resilience.
Through their close connection with local communities, national societies are well positioned to raise health awareness issues, support preventive initiatives, and contribute to the implementation of programmes that build public trust and advance the objectives of national immunisation strategies, Dr Al Eid added.
During the opening of the workshop, Dr Mohammad Mutlaq Al Hadid, president of the Jordan Red Crescent Society, in the presence of Atta Durani, head of the IFRC delegation in Jordan, emphasised the importance of consolidating partnerships among relevant stakeholders to help improve vaccine coverage and reach those most in need.
