CYCLING – TEAM Bahrain Victorious registered a solid top 10 finish yesterday in the first stage of this year’s Tour de France.
The kingdom’s squad were classified ninth overall after completing the opening 19.6-kilometre team time trial (TTT), held in Barcelona, Spain, in a time of 22 minutes 34.810 seconds.
They finished 47 seconds behind Team Visma-Lease a Bike, who took the leg in 21:47.870. Antonio Tiberi was Bahrain Victorious’ quickest to the finish, followed by teammates Lenny Martinez, Damiano Caruso, Vlad Van Mechelen, Matej Mohoric, Robert Stannard, Phil Bauhaus, and Kamil Gradek.
A total of 23 squads took part in yesterday’s TTT. The three-week, 21-stage Tour de France continues today with the 168.5km second leg. Above, Bahrain Victorious riders compete in yesterday’s TTT.
