Dallas Police officials have met with the Egyptian national team's coaches and players as a gesture of goodwill, after a video of a heated confrontation between an officer and head coach Hossam Hassan went viral.
The altercation occurred at the team's hotel when a police officer argued with members of the coaching staff as a player took a picture with a young fan in the lobby.
The officer first approached head coach Hossam Hassan before a shoving match broke out between the officer and team director Ibrahim Hassan.
Footage of the argument spread quickly online, prompting statements from both sides in the build-up to Egypt's eventual win over Australia on Friday at Dallas Stadium.
Deputy Police Chief Osama Ismail later met with the coaching staff and team captain Mohamed Salah in an attempt to defuse the situation.
"Today, members of Team Egypt met with Dallas Police officers, exchanged gifts, and shared conversations centred on partnership and mutual respect," a Dallas Police statement read.
Department officials expressed their intent to ensure relations between the police force and the Egyptian visitors were left on good terms.
