BASKETBALL – Bahrain representatives Seef were eliminated from further title contention in the preliminary round of the Caceres Challenger in Spain, part of the Fiba 3x3 World Tour 2026.
The kingdom’s squad narrowly lost to Spanish side Fuengirola 15-17 in their second assignment in Pool B, where they had earlier suffered a 13-18 defeat to Amsterdam Rabobank from the Netherlands.
After falling behind 13-15 late in the game against Fuengirola, back-to-back baskets from Uros Ilic and Austin Ajukwa tied the proceedings with only two minutes to play.
But that was the last time they would score and shots from Javier Vega and Isaac Mayo helped the home side come away with the all-important result as the game clock expired.
Ilic finished with seven points to lead Seef in the setback while Bogdan Dragovic added five.
Elyas Younes scored two points and Ajukwa finished with just one.
Diego De Blas paced Fuengirola with seven points, while Vega had six and Mayo four.
The Caceres Challenger also acted as a qualifier for the Debrecen Masters in Hungary, slated for August 29 and 30.
Seef’s participation in Spain followed their sixth-place finish overall in the Lion City Challenge, held last month in Singapore, also part of this year’s Fiba 3x3 World Tour – the premier international street basketball series featuring tournaments of various levels held around the world.
Masters events are the highest-tier, followed by Challengers.
Later this year, Bahrain will be hosting the third edition of the Manama Masters, scheduled for November 20 and 21.
