The Dubai police recovered AED 10 million and arrested three suspects within 10 minutes of a currency exchange robbery after an emergency alert was triggered.
The masked suspects reportedly stormed the exchange office in Deira, smashed the surveillance cameras, assaulted the employees and tied them up, before making away with the cash.
One of the employees, who managed to free himself, activated the Dubai police's SOS emergency service via his mobile phone. The police operations room was instantly notified of the alert, triggering an immediate response.
Officers then sealed all entry and exit points to Deira, increased patrols around surrounding neighbourhoods and circulated the suspects' descriptions.
Within 10 minutes, a traffic sergeant stopped a suspicious vehicle, arrested one of the suspects and recovered bags containing a portion of the stolen cash.
A Dubai police helicopter then spotted the two remaining suspects at an industrial yard after they had abandoned the bags and attempted to hide behind cargo containers. Ground teams were deployed to the area and the two men were arrested.
All three suspects, who are reportedly African nationals, were apprehended and the full amount of stolen cash was recovered.
