THE Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2026 has been rescheduled for October 2 to 4 and it will be held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, Formula One and the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) announced yesterday.
The kingdom’s race weekend was originally scheduled to take place in April earlier this year but had to be put off due to the regional situation.
Efforts to bring the event back on this year’s F1 calendar have now resulted in an historic agreement between F1, the FIA, and the governments of Bahrain and Malaysia, to stage the grand prix at Sepang, slotted in between the F1 races in Azerbaijan and Singapore.
“With the blessings of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, and His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Sultan Iskandar, King of Malaysia, and building on the close and brotherly relations between our two countries, I am proud to join Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, in announcing that Bahrain will host the F1 Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia from October 2 to 4,” His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, said yesterday.
“This will be a wonderful experience for fans around the world and reflects Bahrain’s enduring commitment to, and passion for, the sport.
“Amid ongoing regional challenges, Bahrain is proud to stand as a pillar of stability for F1, and we will continue to do everything in our power to ensure a successful and memorable race for everyone involved.”
F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali commented: “We are delighted to confirm that Malaysia will host the Bahrain Grand Prix in 2026. Once again, the sport has demonstrated its ability to adapt, find solutions, and deliver, creating an exciting moment for everyone who follows F1.”
Information regarding the release of tickets for the event will be announced soon.
• A telephone call was held between HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister and Malaysian Prime Minister Ibrahim yesterday.
During the call, the deep-rooted Bahrain-Malaysia relations were affirmed, together with the shared commitment to further enhance co-operation across all sectors in support of the mutual interests of both countries.
