VOLLEYBALL – Kuwait captured the bronze medals last night in the second Arab Youth Volleyball Championship, currently being hosted by the kingdom.
The Kuwaitis outclassed Algeria 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-23) in both teams’ concluding fixture to secure their top-three finish in the six-nation tournament, organised by the Bahrain Volleyball Association in cooperation with the Arab Volleyball Association.
Kuwait came away with only their second win after five fixtures, and will join Bahrain and Egypt on the winners’ podium.
Following last night’s game, the Kuwaitis were presented their bronze medals in an awarding ceremony attended by Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) vice-presidents Habib Mohammed and Mohammed Al Thawadi, BVA and Arab Volleyball Association secretary general Feras Al Helwachi, and other BVA officials.
Meanwhile, the Bahrainis and Egyptians are set to clash this evening for the coveted title at 7pm to headline the exciting programme on the curtain-closing night at Isa bin Rashid Volleyball Arena at Isa Sports City in Riffa.
Both teams head into the contest with unbeaten records in their four outings so far, while the two sides have also yet to concede a single set in the competition.
The Bahrainis, coached by veteran tactician Yusuf Khalifa, will be relying heavily on their top performers all throughout the championship, including outsider hitters Sayed Hasan Alabbar, Mohamed Haram, and Nasralla Haram, opposite spiker Mohammed Kadhem, middle blockers Ammar Ebrhaim and Ali Abdulla, and setter Ahmed Husain.
The rest of the national team features outside hitters Ebrahim Alhamar and Abdulla Aljaboori, opposite spikers Karrar Yaqoob and Hadi Hussain; middle blocker Mustafa Ebrahim, setter Hussain Albalooshi, and liberos Hadi Ahmed and Abbas Mohamed.
Bahrain were the silver-medallists in the Jordanian capital two years ago, but are now aiming to go one better on their home floor in front of their local fans.
In today’s other clash, Saudi Arabia – champions from the first edition held in 2024 in Amman, Jordan – wrap up their campaign against Jordan at 3pm.
The awards ceremony for gold and silver along with the tournament’s closing formalities are scheduled to follow right after this evening’s concluding match.
