BASKETBALL – Bahrain’s under-23 women’s 3x3 basketball national team claimed a respectable third-place finish yesterday in the third stop of the Fiba 3x3 Youth Nations League 2026, currently being played in Singapore.
The kingdom’s squad, featuring the quartet of Bayan Salman, Polina Sviatskaya, JaMya Robinson, and Noor Najaf beat Qatar 21-6 in their opening Pool B fixture of the preliminary round but then lost to Australia 6-21.
That prevented them from advancing to the final for the third successive stop.
They came away with 70 points for their conference standing, where they remained in second place – behind only Australia – at the midway point of Fiba 3x3 Youth Nations League action.
Also yesterday, Bahrain’s under-23 men’s 3x3 basketball national team lost both their fixtures in Pool A of their event to finish in sixth and last place.
Hitting the half-court with Ismaeel Alansari, Naser Alanzoor, Mohammed Alanzi, and Hamad Faisal, the Bahrainis first bowed to Singapore 8-21 before putting up a spirited fight in a 13-21 defeat against Australia. They came away with 45 points for their conference standing, where they are fifth from six nations.
Australia have been dominant so far in Singapore, winning both the women’s and men’s events in each of the first three stops.
Following a rest day today, action resumes tomorrow with the fourth of six stops in the Asia West/Pacific conference of the Fiba 3x3 Youth Nations League 2026.
Teams earn points in each of the events as they continue their qualification bids for the Fiba 3x3 U23 World Cup, which is to be held in Hubei, China, from September 15 to 19.
