An Abu Dhabi court has ordered a man to pay a woman AED58,700 (approx BD6,030) after finding that he had deceived her into believing he intended to marry her and took money from her over an extended period.
The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Claims Court heard that the man received cash and bank transfers from the woman after promising to repay the funds once his financial circumstances improved and his banking transactions were processed, Al Khaleej reported.
The woman filed a civil lawsuit seeking compensation for material, moral, and psychological harm resulting from deception, deliberate delays, and repeated failure to repay the debt.
The court ordered the man to pay AED48,700 (approx BD5,000) in principal compensation, along with AED10,000 (approx BD1,030) for legal fees, court costs, and late-payment interest.
