Al Hilal Group is marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a series of initiatives to raise awareness and show its support for Think Pink Bahrain.
Team members at the group’s corporate headquarters in Hoora and the GDN Media team at The Press in East Riffa wore pink shirts, dresses, saris and ties for a special Think Pink day.
Al Hilal Group Managing Director Ronnie Middleton said: “We’re delighted to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month across the Al Hilal Group. Greater awareness, education and early detection can save lives. We encourage everyone to make their health a priority, get checked regularly, and encourage their friends and family to do the same.”
The Gulf Daily News newsroom will compete in a knock-out pool tournament, with all funds raised going towards breast cancer research and a pink-ribboned cake to the winner.
Stanley Szecowka, Editor-in-Chief of GDN Media, said: “Once again we will be supporting this great cause in print, online and across our social media platforms. Together we hope to save lives.”
The GDN’s new On The Record podcast will feature an in-depth conversation about breast cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment with Think Pink: Bahrain Breast Cancer Society founder Dr Jules Sprakel. Founded in 2004, the society focuses on awareness, education and research around the disease.
In the episode, Dr Sprakel will discuss common myths around breast cancer, concerns about ‘pink-washing’ and the organisation’s recent research projects. It will be released next week on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
GDN Media will also highlight events taking place across Bahrain during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. GDN’s sister title GulfWeekly will report on Bahrain Writers’ Circle’s annual art and poetry exhibition, which opens on October 10.
The exhibition will feature an interactive installation by locally based artist Pallavi Jain, with guests invited to tie a pink ribbon to the artwork in solidarity with the cause. Members of Bahrain Crochet Club will also gather that day to knit pink ribbons.
Coverage will continue with the Bahrain Cancer Society’s annual Walk-A-Thon on October 16, when more than 1,000 supporters are expected to gather at Water Garden City in Seef District from 4.30pm. Participants will include cancer survivors and their families, while activities, educational materials and the sale of cancer awareness products will promote prevention and early detection.
