MP Jalila Al Sayed has made history by becoming Bahrain’s first woman first deputy speaker of Parliament, securing 21 votes in a three-way contest for the vacant post.
Ms Al Sayed defeated fellow candidates MP Bassema Mubarak, who received five votes, and MP Abdulla Al Romaihi, who secured eight votes .
