Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said two oil tankers ‘exploded’ after striking mines while traveling through an ‘unauthorised route’ in the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian state media reported yesterday.
Iran has imposed restrictions on vessels seeking to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and has attacked ships it says violate those restrictions, as it seeks to assert control over the strategic waterway and exert pressure on the US.
Meanwhile, Iran has created a secret network of military agencies with global reach to import at least $2 billion in hardware, explosives and heavy-duty trucks since January 2025, evading both the US naval blockade and Western sanctions, a Reuters investigation has found.
