Bahraini international football referee Nawaf Shukralla officiated the fifth-place match of the 2016 Club World Cup between Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors of South Korea and Mamelodi Sundowns of South America held yesterday at Suita City Football Stadium in Osaka, Japan.
Shukralla’s fellow Bahraini Yaser Tolefat was the first assistant referee of the same match, along with Taleb Al Merri of Qatar as second assistant referee, Qadri Al Zaytooni of Tunisia as fourth referee and Ravshan Irmatov of Uzbekistan as fifth referee. The match ended 4-1 for the Korean team.
Shukralla, who turned 40 last October, got the international referee badge in 2008, and three years later in 2011, Fifa called him on duty at the 2011 Fifa U-17 World Cup that was held in Mexico.
He has also officiated at other tournaments, including the AFC Champions League, the 2012 Club World Cup in Japan and 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
In March 2013, Fifa named Shukralla to its list of 52 candidate referees for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Shukralla, along with his Bahraini assistants Tolefat and Ebrahim Sabt, officiated two matches in the group stage of the 2014 World Cup.
The first match was between Spain and Australia. A few days later, they received a call-up for the Portugal-Ghana match.
